The Coalition of Northern Support Groups has declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, describing the move as a commitment to political fairness, national unity, and continuity of governance.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the group’s chairman, Abdullahi Idris Gumel, said the coalition’s decision was informed by the need to sustain the existing political balance between the North and South, stressing that President Tinubu deserves to complete his constitutional two terms.
“This coalition stands for equity and stability,” Gumel stated. “We have built a solid structure across the 19 northern states, with coordinators and secretaries at every level. Our focus is to ensure continuity of leadership under President Tinubu come 2027.”
The coalition’s secretary, Joseph Maiwada, said the decision to back the President was based on his administration’s visible achievements, especially in the economy and governance.
“Those who criticise the President today had the opportunity to fix Nigeria in the past but failed,” Maiwada said. “We have seen results from Tinubu’s reforms — governors are defecting to the APC, and the people are responding positively. The North understands that it is fair to allow the South to finish its turn before power returns.”
Also speaking, Aliyu Sabiu Muduru, former Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dikko Radda on Budget and Economic Planning, said the coalition represents continuity in leadership, not opportunism.
“The APC’s performance in Katsina during the 2023 elections was proof of our collective commitment. The opposition is now joining forces with us because they see progress in the system,” Muduru said
Muduru noted that the administration’s economic reforms were beginning to yield positive results.
For Dr. Hauwa Hayatu Bagu, popularly known as the “Mother of the Coalition,” citizens should focus on prayers and constructive support rather than criticism.
“In 2023, we mobilised votes for President Tinubu, and we are ready to do it again,” she said. “When food and fuel prices were high, everyone complained. Now that prices are easing, people should acknowledge progress. Let us pray for our leaders and appreciate positive change.”
