The Northern Governors’ Forum has described reprehensible and heinous Christmas Eve attacks on communities within Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has on behalf of the 19 Northern Governors, expressed deepest condolences to the affected families and communities, as well as the government and people of Plateau State.

“It is reprehensible and disheartening to hear of the loss of over 100 hundred lives and destruction of properties that occurred during these attacks, especially during a time when residents were preparing to celebrate the festive season,” said Governor Yahaya.

He said such acts of violence were not only cowardly but also ran contrary to the spirit of unity and the coexistence that the regions upheld.

The Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum said everyone should prioritise peace and harmonious living in the communities and that people should reaffirm their commitment to peaceful coexistence and solidarity regardless of the differences.

He therefore called for unity in the collective commitment to peace and security, urging them to stand firm against all forms of violence and division.

Governor Yahaya commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his leadership and responsible handling of the situation in the aftermath of those attacks while assuring him that the Northern Governors were standing with him in unity and solidarity to face adversity, as well as work together towards lasting peace in Plateau State.

He commended the security agencies operating in the area and implored them to redouble their efforts in safeguarding the lives and property of the people, harping on the urgent need for increased vigilance and swift action to ensure the safety of all citizens.

“It is imperative that those responsible for the heinous acts are swiftly apprehended and made to face the full weight of justice.”

The Gombe State Governor urged members of the communities to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the security agencies for immediate intervention.
