The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has received with profound shock and deep sorrow the news of the passing of His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a personally signed statement, the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, described the death of the former Nigerian leader as a moment of national mourning and a great loss not only to the North, but to the entire country.

Governor Yahaya said Former President Muhammadu Buhari was an iconic figure whose life was defined by discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the service of Nigeria.

“From his early days as a young military officer, through his time as military Head of State, and later as a democratically elected President, Buhari distinguished himself as a leader of conviction and purpose,” Governor Yahaya said.

He said “his legacy was one of sacrifice, selflessness, and a steadfast dedication to the unity, security, and progress of our dear nation”.

Governor Yahaya also noted that the former president was more than a national iconic figure to the Northern Governors’ Forum, but more of a mentor and moral compass, who championed accountability, transparency, and good governance.

He further remarked that Buhari’s death has created a significant vacuum that will be deeply felt across all sectors of national life.

“On behalf of the Northern Governors’ Forum, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his beloved family, the Daura Emirate, the government and people of Katsina State, and indeed to all Nigerians. We pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgives his shortcomings and grants him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” he concluded.
