Nottingham Forest Stuns Manchester United
Nottingham Forest beat Manchester United 2-1 in their last Premier League encounter in 2023, with a stunning strike by Morgan Gibbs-White sealing the victory at the City Ground stadium in Nottingham, England.
The hosts featured Nigerian International Ola Aina at left-back, with Chris Woods leading the line supported by former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga. The visitors started with Marcus Rashford in attack, while Alejandro Garnacho and Antony were on the flanks.
In the first half, both sides could not find the net but apparently, all the thrilling action was reserved for the second half. The opening goal for Forest came in the 64th minute when there was a miscommunication between United defenders Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane.
Evans tried to play the offside trap for Forest, but his centre-back partner seemingly didn’t get the message and winger Nicolas Dominguez took full advantage.
Fourteen minutes later, Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner appeared to have given Man Utd a route back into the game when his poor pass was capitalised on by Marcus Rashford, who made no mistake in the box. 1-1!
However, as Man United chased a late winner, Forest caught them on the counter attack to clinch victory in the 82nd minute. Gibbs-White’s first-time strike from the edge of the box, set up by Elanga, sent the fans at the City Ground stadium into a frenzy.
Manchester United have now lost their ninth Premier League game out of 20 to remain seventh in the table, 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.
Nottingham Forest have now won back-to-back games under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, moving them five points clear of the relegation zone.
