The National Population Commission (NPC) in Nigeria has witnessed a change in leadership as the tenure of Mr. Nasir Isa Kwarra ends on Wednesday.

Mr. Kwarra, who officially concluded his five-year tenure, handed over leadership of the Commission to the Federal Commissioner representing Niger State, Muhammad Usman Dattijo.

The handover ceremony took place at the National Population Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Mr. Dattijo will serve as Acting Chairman until the swearing-in of the newly appointed Chairman, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, by Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued by the Commission, Mr. Kwarra commended the Federal Commissioners, Management, and Staff of the NPC for their unwavering support and dedication throughout his five-year tenure.

He highlighted the Commission’s “strides in strengthening data collection systems, digitizing Civil Registration and Vital Statistics system, and advancing preparations for the forthcoming national Population and Housing Census.”

The outgone Chairman noted that the remarkable achievements were made “possible through collective commitment and professionalism.”

The event, which was marked by warm tributes and emotional farewells, featured the signing of the official handover notes, presentation of an appreciation gift to Kwarra, and a group photograph session to commemorate the occasion.

As Dattijo assumes leadership in an acting capacity, the Commission is expected to maintain momentum in executing its mandate while awaiting the formal assumption of office by the incoming Chairman, Aminu Yusuf.
