All clubs that make up the Nigeria Professional Football League have proposed playing an abridged league for the 2022/23 season due to time constraints.

The also have stressed the need to have a uniform football calendar with the European leagues.

This proposal was tabled before the new Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Gusau in Abuja and would be forwarded to the Interim Management committee to handle.

According to the proposal by the club owners, the abridged league will be divided into two groups of 10 teams each and the top two teams in each group will compete in a Super Four tournament to decide the league champions.

The club owners, who are pushing for proper restructuring and organisation of the league, also proposed that the NPFL Board should be put in place and executives elected to run the league properly.

They insisted that interruptions to the league had caused huge debts for match officials and staff as well as lack of sponsorship.
