Enyimba FC opened its 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) campaign with victory after beating Nasarawa United 2-1, courtesy of goals from Elijah Akanni and Imo Obot, at the New Jos Stadium in Jos, Plateau State.

Nasarawa United could not play on its home ground, the Lafia Township Stadium, due to ongoing renovation of the stadium.

The People’s Elephant of Enyimba dominated possession early on and were rewarded in the 32nd minute when Elijah Akanni opened the scoring for the visitors, after his powerful shot found the back of the net.

George Finidi’s men continued to press after they went ahead as they looked to assert their dominance in the match.

Enyimba doubled its advantage five minutes later courtesy of Obot’s fine finish to give his side a commanding lead going into the halftime break.

In the 86th minute, Nasarawa United reduced the deficit through Oche Josiah to make the scores 2-1 after the late pressure from the Solid Miners.

However, it would only be a consolation as the match finished 2-1 in favour of Enyimba FC.

Enyimba have now won each of their last 2 opening away matches in the NPFL. They have lost just one of its last 4 opening away matches (WWLD).
