NPFL: Rivers United misses opportunity to go tops

The last two games of NPFL round eigth fixtures came up this evening with a draw in Owerri and a defeat for Rivers United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium,

The oriental derby at the Dan Ayiam Stadium between Heartland FC and FC Ifeanyi Ubah ended in a 1-1 draw.

Adachi Emmanuel converted from the spot on the 31st minute to put the home side ahead but Igboeli Chinemerem header four minutes from time ensured the spoils was shared.

Having gone 376 minutes without a goal in the league, Kastina United ended their goal draught by scoring twice in the first twenty minutes of their game against Rivers United.

Faisal Sani opened the scoring from a direct free-kick in the fifth minute, then Boubacar Massalay (19) made it 2 for Kastina United with a solo effort which started from the halfway line.

Malachi Ohawume (83) pull one back for Rivers United to leave the final score at 2-1.

With the round eigth fixtures completed, Enyimba leads the log with 18 points, closely followed by Rivers United and Kwara United who are on 15 points each and Kano Pillars with 14 points completes the top four.

After their 1-1 draw in the oriental derby, FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Heartland occupies the 17th and 18th place, while Abia Warriors who secured their win of the season yesterday takes the 19th place and Adamawa United without a win yet comfortably seats at the bottom of the table.
