The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested four suspects for allegedly vandalizing streetlights in Tafa Local Government Area of the state.
While parading the suspects before journalists, the state Commandant, Adamu Abdullahi Kambra, revealed that the NSCDC Anti-Vandal Team was on a routine patrol near Tafa-Diko Junction when they observed a fallen streetlight pole that had been vandalized. Upon further inspection, the team discovered that several poles in the area had been damaged.
According to Kambra, the Anti-Vandal Team carried out a surveillance operation, which led to the arrest of four suspects at the scene.
The arrested suspects include: Aliyu Abdulkadir (Male, 40 years); Zaradeen Idris (Male, 19 years); Kabiru Mai Kaza (Male, 35 years) and Zainu Zuladaini (Male, 19 years).
“This swift response demonstrates the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure while ensuring public safety,” he stated.
The commandant disclosed that tools used for vandalizing the poles were recovered from the suspects, who are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
According to Kambra, the NSCDC, in collaboration with other security agencies, has made significant efforts to combat the menace of vandalism across Niger State.
He emphasized that the command has strengthened its operations to ensure that criminal elements find no room to operate in the state.
Kambra urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity to authorities, reiterating that vandalism is a serious crime that adversely affects the community.
He further expressed gratitude to the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi for his unwavering support and leadership, as well as to Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago for his continuous support to the corps.
“The NSCDC Niger State Command will continue to work closely with other security agencies in the state to identify and prosecute individuals involved in such criminal acts. We remain committed to maintaining law and order while protecting critical national assets,” Kambra added.
In his statement, one of the suspects, Kabiru Mai Kaza from Katsina State, claimed to be an informant for a security agency and denied involvement in the vandalism.
The NSCDC reassures the public of its dedication to ensuring a safe and secure environment while urging citizens to provide useful information to support its efforts.
