NSCDC rescues four victims of human trafficking in Sokoto state

The Sokoto State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has rescued four victims of human trafficking and arrested one Abdulfatai Adeyemi, in connection with the illegal act.

 

State Commandant of the Corps, Muhammad Saleh Dada, stated this at a press briefing in the state office in Sokoto.

 

According to the Commandant, the victims Sadiya Akinyola, Monsurat Adebayo, Halima and Aisha Akinlola all underage from South West of the country were rescued at Sokoto Central Motor Park on the 28th of October, 2022.

 

He noted that preliminary investigations by the operatives of the Command responsible for human trafficking activities revealed that the victims are heading to Niger Republic through Illela border.

 

“Mr Abdulfatai Adeyemi received the four underage girls from one Alpha in Lagos State to help him deliver them to someone in Sokoto and a phone number was given to him to call and hand them over.

 

“If the person receives them, he would move to illela border for upward movement to final destination through Niger Republic,” he explained.

 

Dada further said his Command will liase with Lagos State operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to ensure arrest of the Alpha.

 

He explained that as soon as the investigation is over, the victims would be handed over to National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP).

 

He said the cases of child trafficking is becoming rampant in the country, but his command would continue to partner with all relevant agencies to reduce the menace to a minimum level in the state.

 

The State Commandant urged parents to always look after their children as gift from God not to risk their life for unnecessary purposes.
