Activities on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange begun on a negative this week with the All Share Index and Market Capitalization depreciating by 0.40 percent.

The Market Capitalization which closed on Friday at N20,335 trillion Naira, closed on Monday at N20,260 trillion Naira, dropping N75 billion or 0.40 percent.

Similarly, the All-Share Index dropped 0.40 percent or 153.84 basis points from Friday’s close of 38,866.39 basis points to close on Monday at 38,712.55 basis points.

In today’s trading, 16 stocks gained while 20 declined.

JAPAUL GOLD & VENTURES PLC topped the gainers chart having an opening and closing price of 0.63k and 0.69k per share respectively, thereby increasing by 0.06k or 9.52 percent. Followed by UACN PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT COMPANY PLC, which commenced trading today at 0.75k per share and closed at 0.82k per share, gaining 0.07k or 9.33 percent. And AFRICA PRUDENTIAL PLC was next with a gain from N5.40k per share to N5.85k per share by 0.45k or 8.33 percent.

Conversely, STANBIC IBTC HOLDINGS PLC led the losers dropping from N48.30k per share to N43.50k per share by N4.80k or 9.94 percent. While GUINNESS NIG PLC begun trading at N29.70k per share to close at N26.75k per share, shedding off N2.95k or 9.93 percent. And CUSTODIAN INVESTMENT PLC declined from N7.00 per share to N6.00 per share, loosing 0.55k or 8.40 percent.

Sectoral performance was also poor with only the Banking Index appreciating from 348.28 basis points to 348.82 basis points, up 0.54 basis points or or 0.2%.

The Insurance Index, Consumer Goods Index, and Oil/Gas Index all depreciated by 1.71 basis points or 0.9%, 5.7 basis points or 1.03% and 0.33 basis points or 0.1% respectively.

Meanwhile, the Industrial Index closed flat at 1,875.49 basis points.
