NSF: Niger State Lauds Athletes For Winning Medals

The Niger State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Malam Yusuf Sulaiman, has congratulated the Team Niger Scrabble and Taekwondo athletes for winning medals at the ongoing 21st edition of the National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria.

Sulaiman, who is up and doing to make sure Team Niger wins Laurels for the State, has also called on the other associations to do more to make the State proud at the festival. The Commissioner assured the athletes of the State’s readiness to fulfil the promises made of the big rewards for any medals won at the festival.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Baba Yakuma, said in a statement that the Commissioner expressed satisfaction on the performance of Team Niger in the festival. He said the teams are  performing credibly well and willing to deliver on its  promise of making the State proud.

Team Niger Handball defeated Team Rivers by 26-19 in the second match played at the JJ Okocha Stadium. Also Team Hockey of Niger State lost to Lagos 3-2 by penalty shootout in the first match.

Simeon Oyediran of Team Niger Scrabble won a Gold medal after playing 15 games straight.

In the 63.5kg boxing event, Rilwan Abdulraheem beat his opponent representing Team Ondo by 5-0 to qualify for quarter finals.
