The Director General of the Nigeria Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Buba Yakub, has assured returning volunteers from the Republic of Benin of the agency’s unwavering support in securing employment opportunities in their host country.

During a reception in Abuja for the volunteers who recently completed a 24-month assignment in Cotonou, Mr. Yakubu, represented by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Nkem Anyata-Lafia, emphasized the agency’s commitment to facilitating the transition for volunteers who have been offered jobs abroad.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s 4-D Foreign Policy framework, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s influence on both regional and global stages. The core pillars of this policy encompass Democracy, Development, Demography, and the Diaspora.

“Through the Technical Aid Corps Scheme, President Bola Tinubu sends a strong message to the world that Nigeria is dedicated to enhancing global collaboration and fostering a vibrant demographic across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific,” Mr. Yakubu said.

Expressing gratitude to the volunteers for their invaluable services, the DG stated, “We appreciate your dedication to the people of Benin Republic and the respect and love you’ve fostered between our two nations. This represents the essence of South-South Cooperation, a commitment we’ve upheld for 38 years.”

Ambassador Zakari Usman, the Director of Programmes at the NTAC, presented the volunteers during the event and highlighted the significance of the debriefing session.

He expressed hope that this essential component of the agency’s operational framework would allow for the documentation of individual volunteer experiences, facilitating the sharing of insights and best practices with future volunteers and identifying areas for program improvement.

Senior Counselor Hauwa Arabo-Mustapha, who represented the Director of Programmes at the event, stated, “Your feedback as volunteers during this debriefing will be crucial in shaping our organization’s future and enhancing Nigeria’s role in international development cooperation.”

Among the 15 returning volunteers, many have received commendations for their commitment to service from the people of Benin. They expressed a desire for the duration of the scheme to be extended to three or four years, allowing them to make an even greater impact in recipient countries.
