NUC Approves University Of Agriculture, Climate Action For Niger State

The National Universities Commission (NUC), has approved a University of Agriculture and Climate Action for Niger State.

 

The University located in Mokwa area of the state and named after a former military Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar is the 65th State University and 277th University in the Nigerian University System.

 

This was contained in a letter issued by the Acting Executive Secretary of NUC, Chris Maiyaki to Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago in recognition of the new University.

 

Maiyaki urged the state to ensure adequate funding of University to enable smooth academic sessions.

 

The letter further reads:

 

“Consequent upon the receipt of the Niger State Government’s letter dated 2nd October, 2024, notifying the National Universities Commission (NUC) of the establishment of the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, and the formal presentation of the Strategic documents, including the relevant gazetted University Law, Academic Brief, and Physical Master Plan, I write, on behalf of the National Universities Commission (NUC), to inform His Excellency, that with effect from Monday 2nd December, 2024.

 

“Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, Niger State, has been recognised as the 65th State University and 277th University in the Nigerian University System.

 

“The National Universities Commission, hereby, pledges its support to the University. We also enjoin His Excellency and the Niger State Government to take full advantage of the professional and technical advice that the Commission is statutorily required to provide State Governments on the establishment, sustainable funding, and operation of their universities.

 

“By a copy of this letter, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), are being notified of the establishment of the University.

 

“I wish to congratulate His Excellency, and the good people of Niger State, on the establishment of Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, to be located in Mokwa, Niger State.
