NUJ Lagos Council congratulates Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu on re-election

The Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) Lagos State Council have congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his re-election into office for another four-year term.
In a statement signed by the chairman of the council, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, he said that the governor’s re-election is a clear testimony of his numerous excellent achievements during his first term of office.
“We have no doubt that Governor Sanwo-Olu will do more towards economic advancement of Lagos State. It is our prayer that God will grant the governor the wisdom, strength and the wherewithal to continue to pilot the ship of the state,” Ajayi said.
In the early hours of Monday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was declared as winner of the highly competitive governorship election.
He won with the majority votes, defeating his closest opponent Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party with a difference of 449, 805 votes.
Results from the 20 local governments in the state show that the incumbent defeated 15 other candidates in the race vying for the governorship position. He won in 19 local governments areas of the state, losing only in one.
In the declaration of results made by the Returning Officer, Governor Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes ahead of Gbadebo Rhodes of the Labour Party who got 312,329 votes, and Adediran Olajide Abdulazeez of the People’s Democratic Party who polled 62,449 votes.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there are 7,060,195 registered voters in Lagos state overall.
However, only 1,173 631 voters voted in the governorship election on March 18 out of a total of 6,214,970 people who obtained their permanent voter cards. 1,155 678 votes were shared among all the contenders, but 17,953 votes were rejected.
The Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure in her declaration stated “I declare Sanwo-Olu Babajide Olusola of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law by scoring 25% in two third of the local governments of the state and also having the highest number of votes cast and meeting the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is declared elected”.
