NYSC Commences free medical outreach in Sokoto State
The National Youth Service Corps in Sokoto State, says it has commenced the provision of free medical services in the state, targeting no fewer than 500 residents of the Sifawa community in Bodinga Local Government Area.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Usman Yakubu-Yaro, disclosed that the outreach was aimed at reaching no fewer than 500 members of the community with free treatment and other healthcare talks. According to reports, the medical outreach was organized under NYSC’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers.

Yakubu-Yaro said that the ailments to be attended to include malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhoea, cholera and diabetes, among others.
According to him, any other ailment that cannot be handled by the corps’ medical volunteers will be referred to a more competent hospital.
He added that a team of NYSC medical corps members, comprising medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and other auxiliary health personnel, were deployed for the exercise.
Yakubu-Yaro further explained that the exercise was part of the vision of the NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmad, to support vulnerable families, especially in rural settlements.
Also, he stated said that the programme was established in 2014, amongst other reasons, to utilize NYSC’s medical personnel as volunteer agents in the provision of healthcare services for rural communities.
Responding on behalf of the benefiting communities, the District Head of Sifawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Tambari, expressed appreciation to the NYSC management for the initiative which seeks to improve the people’s wellbeing.
However, he urged members of the community to avail themselves of the opportunity to benefit from the medical outreach.
