The Cordinator of Nasarawa State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Abdullahi Jikamshi, has tasked Corp members to observe personal and environmental hygiene so as to guard against any outbreak of diseases.
The Coordinator made the call on Saturday in Lafia at the inauguration of Nasarawa State NYSC National Environmental Sanitation day.
According to Mr. Jikamshi, the importance of hygiene to living healthy cannot be undermined hence the need for Corp members to ensure that they contribute toward ensuring that their host communities and the state is always clean.
He explained that ’’health is next to Godliness and is wealth,’’ therefore there is no substitute for living a healthy life.
He said that the foundation of good health is keeping oneself and the environment clean.
“If our environment is always clean, our sources of water and food are not contaminated and we maintain hygiene, it would go a long way to prevent spread of diseases such as malaria, Lassa fever, COVID-19 among others,” he said.
He therefore said that similar exercise was going on in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Director of Community Development Services (CDS) of NYSC in the state, Mr. Yakubu Usman, said Corp members were deployed to public facilities in all the 13 Local Government Areas of the state to keep it clean in commemoration of the day.
He explained that Corp members have contributed immensely to the development of so many communities in the state in different areas through the CDS programme.
He, therefore, assured the public that Corp members would continue to participate in sanitation exercises in their respective locations to keep the state clean.
On his part, Chairman Lafia LGA, Aminu Maifata, who inaugurated the Chairman Lafia LGA exercise, applauded NYSC management for the initiative and other interventions to better the living condition of the people through CDS.
