The Director of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) South East Area Office, Mr. Ayodele Adegoke, has urged corps members to prioritise skill acquisition as a pathway to a more prosperous future.

Mr. Adegoke made this appeal during an inspection visit to the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday, coinciding with the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members. This visit is part of his regular assessment of NYSC facilities across Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi states.

Commending the corps members for their exemplary conduct and strict adherence to camp regulations, Mr. Adegoke encouraged them to take full advantage of the NYSC reward system, which recognizes dedication through national, state, and local government honors.

During his tour, Mr. Adegoke inspected critical facilities within the camp, including the kitchen and clinic. He stressed the importance of hygiene and encouraged corps members to utilize available health services, particularly under the ongoing coverage provided by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). He reassured them of their health coverage and urged them to seek medical assistance at NHIA approved hospitals if necessary.

Highlighting the vital role of positive behaviour and enthusiasm, Mr. Adegoke emphasised that these qualities are crucial for the success of their orientation program. He also underscored the significance of the NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, stating, “Take advantage of this opportunity to learn a skill. This program is designed to equip you to be job-ready and empower you to become employers of labor.”

In addition to skill acquisition, Mr. Adegoke addressed personal security, reminding corps members about the importance of vigilance throughout their service year. “Security is a shared responsibility. It is imperative to respect the norms and culture of the communities where you are posted and to seek guidance from NYSC officials, who are here to support you,” he advised.

Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, the State Coordinator, also welcomed the Director and expressed her pride in the conduct and discipline of the newly sworn-in corps members. “You have started well, and I trust you will finish strong. Continue to uphold the camp rules and seize all available opportunities,” Iruma said.
