The National Youth Service Corps NYSC in Ebonyi State, has embarked on another Free Medical outreach in Onicha local government area of the State.
This was contained in the Address presented by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Mercy Bamai Dawuda. She said, “The Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) is a carefully thought out and well packaged programme by the NYSC, targeted at bringing free medical care to the door steps of the indigent and vulnerable persons in our rural communities, who lack access to proper medical care as at when necessary.
“May I use this medium to inform you that the HIRD programme was first held in the State October, 2015 at Abakaliki local government council headquarters Nkaliki and subsequently at Ezza North and South LGAs, Ebonyi LGA, Izzi LGA, Ohaukwu LGA among others.
“I am delighted to inform you that ever since then, this unique initiative of the NYSC has grown and is positively impacting the overall health care needs of the good people of Ebonyi State in particular and Nigeria in general.
“I am happy to disclose to you that the feedback from the communities who have benefited from the HIRD since its inaugural edition, are full of joy that their health have been improved and their lives made better.
“All hands must be on deck to ensure that our people, young and old enjoy quality health care service.
“In the light of the above, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Mohammed Fada, has resolved that the Scheme will continue to remain committed, dedicated and focused in bringing smiles to the faces of the down trodden and the poor masses in our communities, who ordinarily would not afford hospital bills, through regular implementation of the HIRD programme.
“I wish to encourage all of you gathered here today to take full advantage of the free medical care provided by the NYSC HIRD programme.”
Mr Faleye Abiola, a medical team member, who sensitised the rural dwellers on how to prevent malaria, said the HIRD Program has saved a lot of lives in the State.
The Town Union President of the Community, Mr Isaac Chukwu, also expressed joy over the kind gesture given to them.
Mr Awo Chibueze, a beneficiary, expressed Joy as treatment has commenced on his eyes.
The Coordinator appreciated the Government and good people of Ebonyi State for their support to the NYSC Scheme and for providing a conducive atmosphere for the Scheme to thrive in the State.
