NYSC launches 2-day medical outreach for residents of Bauchi state

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has launched a two-day medical outreach for residents of Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, the State Coordinator of NYSC, speaking during the commencement of the exercise at Aisha Isah Yuguda Under 5 clinic, said the outreach was opened to more than 1000 members of the community.

The exercise is taking place under the NYSC’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).

According to her, the aim of the outreach is to give medical assistance to the less-privileged in the community.

Yakubu explained that some of the ailments to be attended to include malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhea, cholera, diabetes, among others.

She also said that any other ailment that could not be handled by the Corps’ Medical Volunteers would be referred to more competent hospitals for treatment.

She further called on the members of the community to avail themselves the opportunity to benefit from the outreach.

“As far as the programme is concerned, we have touched some nooks and crannies of Bauchi State.

“Our team which comprises medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses and lab scientists is here to comfort these people with their expertise.

“My expectation is that the people of this community will benefit a lot from this medical outreach because we brought the drugs that will take care of those ailments,” she said.

Earlier, the Chairman, Darazo LGA, Mr Sama’ila Sade, commended the NYSC for bringing the programme to the community.

Sade, represented by the Head of Administration in the LGA, Alhaji Bala Jahun, said the local government had been supporting NYSC through provision of accommodation and allowances for corps members posted to the area.

In their separate vote of thanks, some of the beneficiaries, Maryam Abubakar and Jummai Yusuf expressed happiness and appreciated NYSC for the gesture.
