Members of the South East Obidient Movement, led by Comrade Ikenna Azomchine, popularly known as The Obidient General and a member of the National Advisory Council of the Obidient Movement, have publicly clarified their position regarding the upcoming Anambra State governorship election slated for November 8.
At an exclusive stakeholders’ meeting held in Awka, Comrade Azomchine firmly stated that the movement has not endorsed any candidate for the election. He condemned recent endorsements made by individuals claiming to represent the Obidient Movement in Anambra, describing them as unauthorized and misleading.
“We have not endorsed any candidate for the Anambra governorship election. The movement remains focused on its core mission, which is to support Mr. Peter Obi’s presidential ambition,” Azomchine said.
He emphasised that the movement is not interested in settling for lesser political positions, asserting: “We will not settle for the vice presidential position. It’s either Peter Obi becomes President or Tinubu continues.”
Azomchine reaffirmed the group’s unflinching support for Peter Obi, regardless of which political platform he chooses to run under in the 2027 presidential election. He also called for renewed unity, passion, and dedication among members of the movement.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Vigilus Anukanti, a member of the Imo State Obidient Movement Committee, stressed the need for strategic engagement and solidarity to sustain momentum across the South East.
Barrister Eucharia Ezeukwu, a representative of the Anambra State Obidient Movement Committee, highlighted the essential role of women in advancing the movement’s objectives, noting their importance in grassroots Mobilisation and political advocacy.
National Coordinator of the Great Grassroot Ambassadors, Ms. Ijeoma Uzodinma, urged members to reject defeatist rhetoric aimed at weakening the movement’s resolve. “We must not allow discouragement to take root. The dream we are pursuing is bigger than temporary setbacks,” she said.
In his remarks, Comrade Chidi Nzekwe, a prominent stakeholder and former Anambra State lead coordinator of the movement, encouraged members to become more politically active, including contesting for elective offices. He emphasized the importance of building a sustainable political legacy through strategic participation and credible representation.
The meeting concluded with an interactive session where members from various political affiliations proposed strategies to better engage with the public and strengthen support for Peter Obi’s anticipated 2027 presidential campaign.
