The Obidient Movement, in collaboration with Anambra State Support Groups, hosted a one-day symposium in Onitsha, Anambra State, with the theme “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact.”
The event aimed at strengthening the movement’s organisational structure and promoting strategic development for greater influence in Nigerian politics.
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko articulated a vision for a “new Nigeria,” urging citizens to adopt a proactive approach in selecting their leaders.
He acknowledged the contributions of Nigeria’s founding fathers in securing independence but expressed concern over the ongoing challenges stemming from poor leadership.
“By mobilizing citizens to elect capable leaders, a new Nigeria is not just a dream but an achievable goal,” he asserted.
The symposium addressed six pivotal objectives: harmonization, restructuring, unification of purpose, social and political cohesion, ethical leadership, and the diaspora’s role in reshaping Nigeria.
Dr. Tanko reiterated the movement’s commitment to fostering good governance and accountability through stakeholder engagement.
“We are dedicated to promoting unity, justice, and equity in our quest for a better Nigeria,” he stated.
Notable participants included Professor Stella Okunna, who underlined the importance of ethical governance and urged the movement to extend its reach beyond party lines.
Labour Party governorship aspirant for Anambra’s 2025 election, Valentine Ozigbo, reaffirmed the Obidient Movement’s commitment to advancing national interests and urged attendees to maintain unity for a stronger Nigeria.
He introduced his policy document, “Ka Anambra Chawapu,” designed to outline a framework for a more prosperous state.
Another gubernatorial aspirant, John Nwosu, shared his vision for addressing critical issues in Anambra related to security, health, and education.
He advocated for a comprehensive strategy that prioritises technology and agriculture, insisting that maximizing the region’s strengths was essential for building a brighter future.
“We need to work together under the Obidient Movement for Anambra to thrive,” Nwosu emphasised.
Dr. Pat Utomi, who joined the discussion remotely, posited that a new Nigeria was not only achievable but also inevitable.
He highlighted the necessity for a value-driven movement that encourages collective action.
“The time to act for a new Nigeria is now; our society must transition from consumption to production. This shift will catalyze change,” he stressed, urging attendees to embrace a new consciousness centered on service and sacrifice.
As discussions progressed, leadership challenges emerged as a recurring theme. Several speakers called for constructive collaboration to ensure that lessons learned are reflected in future elections. Professor Okunna reinforced the Obidient Movement’s need to maintain its ideological integrity and maximize its influence among the populace.
The symposium culminated in a collective appeal for unity within the Obidient Movement, asserting that all candidates should adhere to its founding principles, regardless of political affiliations.
Attendees expressed their steadfast support for Peter Obi as the movement’s emblematic leader, reaffirming their commitment to collaborate in creating a brighter future for the Southeast and Nigeria as a whole.
Additionally, a communique issued by the Movement delineated plans for organisational restructuring and reinforcement to uphold social and political cohesion, ethical leadership, and purpose-driven advocacy.
