Ofala Festival: Youth Empowerment Icons Receive Excellence Awards

In a grand ceremony held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Mr. Obinna Nwaka and Hajia Walida Isa were honoured with the prestigious Award of Honour for Quality Leadership and Service to Humanity. The recognition was presented by Igwe Obata-Obie 1 of Abuja, His Royal Highness David Kingston Okey-Dede, the Eze Ndigbo 1 of Maitama Abuja, during the 2024 Ofala/Iwaji Festival.

The event, which took place at the Maitama Abuja palace, celebrated the outstanding contributions of both leaders in youth empowerment, community development, and humanitarian services. Mr. Obinna Nwaka, the Director General of the Committee of Youth on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS), was recognised for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to youth development, the promotion of peace, and good governance in Nigeria. Similarly, Hajia Walida Isa, a retired National Youth Service Corps Director from the Corps Mobilisation Department, was honoured for her distinguished career in civil service, her humanitarian efforts, and her contributions to education and youth development across the country.

The ceremony, attended by CYMS officials and well-wishers, served as a testament to the honorees’ tireless work to create positive, lasting change in their communities.

In his address, HRH Ambassador David Kingston praised both leaders for their steadfast dedication to serving humanity. “Your exemplary service is a reflection of integrity, dedication, and hard work. We are proud to honor you today,” he said.

Mr. Obinna Nwaka, in his acceptance speech, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition, emphasising that the award was a collective achievement for the CYMS team. “Together, we strive to make a difference and serve humanity,” he said. He also dedicated the award to his King, His Royal Highness, Eze Ven D. C. Ogamba of Ezihe Town, Isiala Mbano LGA, Imo State, Southeast Nigeria.

Hajia Walida Isa conveyed her appreciation, noting that the recognition motivated her to intensify her efforts. “This honor humbles me, and I am determined to serve with even greater passion and commitment,” she remarked.

Other notable attendees included Prince Boluwaji Qudus, CYMS’s Director of Logistics; Comrade Stanley Ogbonna; Nuhu Akurugba; Ruth Eluu; Sarah Nkwocha; and Hosea Parah, among others.

The ceremony concluded on a festive note, with attendees celebrating the remarkable achievements of both honorees. This recognition further cements their leadership roles within CYMS and highlights their commitment to making a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
