An All Progressives Congress, APC chieftain in Enugu State, Adaku Ogbu-Aguocha, has emerged as the party’s senatorial candidate for the Enugu East zone.

Announcing the result at the APC South-East Zonal office, the panel chairperson, Abigail Igwe, said that Ogbu-Aguocha scored 270 out of 289 votes, adding that 14 votes were invalid.

Ogbu-Aguocha, who hails from Nara Unataeze in Nkanu East, was the only aspirant to take part in the election.

She will contest against Chimaroke Nnamani, who currently represents the zone and hopes to return after clinching the People’s Democratic Party, PDP ticket.

Igwe explained that although the party only had one candidate for Enugu East, it was necessary to do what was needed.

She also added that overall, the exercise was peaceful.

In her acceptance speech, Ogbu-Aguocha said her emergence as a candidate of the party was a sign of good things to come for the people of Enugu East.

“We have always had sleeping senators representing us. Now is the time for us to wake up and be actively involved in all the decision-making processes at the assembly.”

She said she has come prepared to take power from those who think it is their “birthright in Enugu state”, adding that she will ensure adequate representation for the people.
