Ogun State Government Announces Burial Rites For Late Monarch

The Ogun State Government, south west Nigeria has announced the burial rites for the late Awujale of Ijebu land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

The burial will take place today, Monday 14th July, 2025 at Ogbagba Court, Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, 4:00 PM Local time.

The revered monarch joined his ancestors on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.

Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, in a statement urged residents of the state to remember the family of the revered monarch in their prayers.

Meanwhile, the Ijebu Ode Local Government has declares temporary closure of all major markets within the local government jurisdiction as a mark of honour and deep respect for the departed Monarch.

The Local Government Chairman , Dare Alebiosu in a statement said the directive is in line with the culture and traditions and to allow all sons and daughters of Ijebuland the space to mourn this monumental loss.

Alebiosu added that normal market activities shall resume on a date to be communicated in due course, after consultation with the appropriate traditional authorities, he urge all traders and residents to comply peacefully and respectfully.
