The Ogun State Government has expressed deep condolences following a tragic road accident on Monday, involving two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, as he narrowly survived a fatal crash.

The incident occurred at the Makun axis of the expressway in Ogun State, between the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, located in South-Western Nigeria. It resulted in the deaths of two people.

Anthony Joshua was travelling from Lagos to Sagamu alongside three other occupants at the time of the incident.

The government in a statement described the incident as painful and unfortunate, lamented the loss of lives and noted that other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving appropriate medical care.

The government has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and strictly comply with traffic regulations, particularly during the festive season when traffic volume is typically high.

Road safety officials and other security agencies have also been encouraged to intensify monitoring and enforcement across the state to safeguard lives and property.

“Our hearts go out to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this devastating incident,” the government said.

“As we mourn collectively, we pray for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and for the speedy recovery of those injured. May God grant the families the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
