Ogun State seeks herders’ cooperation with vet officials on vaccination
The Permanent Secretary, Ogun Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Kehinde Jokotoye, has called for the cooperation of herders with veterinary officials to achieve a successful herders’ enumeration and anthrax vaccination exercise.
She made the call while receiving Alhaji Usman Bello, the state Secretary, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, in her office at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday.
Jokotoye, who noted the ongoing state-wide exercise focused on migratory herders, maintained the state needed such proactive measures to prevent the spread of transboundary animal diseases.
She also stated the vaccination exercise would checkmate the outbreak of diseases that could jeopardize the well-being of livestock, herders, and the general public.
“Recently, over 400,000 anthrax vaccines were launched with the aim of addressing the health and productivity of the livestock sector.
“This vaccine would protect cattle from dangerous zoonotic diseases, which pose a risk, not just to livestock alone, but also to human health.
“I urge you herders to cooperate with veterinary officials and take advantage of the opportunity and benefits from the government,” she said.
Meanwhile, Bello expressed gratitude to the state and federal governments for the opportunity granted the association to benefit from the exercise.
He, thereafter, pledged the cooperation of his members.
