Olympics: Morocco, Egypt, Mali Football Group Opponents Revealed
Morocco, Egypt, Mali who are set to represent Africa at the Paris 2024 Olympics, had their journey officially mapped out after the official draw of the Men’s football competition was conducted in Paris, France.
Reigning champions of the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco, were in an interesting group consisting of South American powerhouse Argentina, Ukraine as well as an Asian nation that will finish third at the Asian Cup.
The African champions kick off their campaign against Argentina and then face the Asian representatives, before concluding its Group B test against Ukraine.
Runners up at the CAF U-23 AFCON, Egypt, are drawn in Group C where they face Spain, Dominican Republic as well as the runners up of the Asian Cup. Semi-finalists in 1964, the Pharaohs will be keen to leave their mark in France this year.
Bronze medalists, Mali make up a Group D that consists of the Asian Cup champions, Paraguay as well as Israel.
There could potentially be a third African representative at the Paris showpiece. Guinea, who finished fourth at the CAF AFCON have an outside chance of being the fourth African representative, provided they overcome the fourth-placed finishers at the Asian Cup.
Should the result go their way, Guinea would join hosts France, United States of America as well as New Zealand in Group A.

The opening match of the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament will take place on July 24th and will see France facing off against the United States of America at the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille.
