The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has intensified efforts to attract private investment into the state’s coastal tourism sector.

He said his administration aims to bring in investors to transform the Araromi coastline into a vibrant leisure destination.

The Governor made this known during the Araromi Seaside Carnival in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, southwest Nigeria, stressing the importance of strategic partnerships to harness the area’s economic potential.

Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that the 72-kilometre coastline, one of the longest in Africa, has remained largely underdeveloped, but said “the state has begun deliberate steps to showcase it to a global audience and stimulate investor interest.”

According to him, “the initiative is already yielding positive responses, with private participation beginning to take shape.”

He cited the intervention of a private operator who has introduced basic facilities, including shelters and a mobile kitchen, to improve visitors’ experience.

“The ocean has always been part of our civilisation. It is one of God’s wonders. From Araromi, you can connect with the world. That is why people gather by the seaside to relax, enjoy nature and breathe fresh, uncontaminated air,” he said.

The Governor said the state government has completed land measurements and finalised designs for a new beach resort expected to be operational by next year.

“We are intentional about this. The state government will lead, but we welcome investors to partner with us. Land is available for anyone ready to develop the beach into a convenient and relaxing resort,” he said.

Addressing security concerns, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured that the area would remain safe for residents and visitors.

“There is no kidnapping, no banditry. Maximum security will be ensured. The Atlantic Ocean flanks the area and the only access road will be properly manned. Our people know how to handle any threat,” he said.

He added that ongoing and planned infrastructure projects, including the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, would improve access and support investment in the coastline.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Adesoji Afolabi, said the carnival, now in its second edition, is part of efforts to revive the state’s tourism sector and position Araromi as a global destination.

He said the government plans to develop modern facilities such as chalets, reception halls and other infrastructure to enhance the beach’s appeal, while calling for increased private sector participation.

Other government officials and stakeholders said the initiative would create jobs, boost revenue and expand leisure opportunities, urging investors to take advantage of the coastline’s proximity to Lagos and its growing profile as a tourism hub.
