Ondo State: Nigerian Government Condoles with Family of Late Governor

The Nigerian government has expressed its condolences to the Akeredolu family, the government and people of Ondo State, the South-West geopolitical zone, and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) over the passing of Governor Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu.

In a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government described Akeredolu as a towering presence on the legal landscape, a man of the people, and a strong symbol of the progressivism that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stand for.

The statement also praised Akeredolu’s courage and dynamism in championing justice, security, equity, true federalism, and his developmental legacies as the governor of Ondo State.

“The federal government mourns Akeredolu deeply and prays for the repose of his soul.

May God grant his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the sad and untimely loss,” the statement read.

The Governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, died at the age of 67 after a brief illness, his office announced on Wednesday, 27th of December, 2023.

Akeredolu, who was re-elected for a second term in October 2020, was a prominent lawyer and politician, who served as the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) from 2008 to 2010.

He was also the chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, a platform for advancing the interests of the region in matters of security, development, and federalism.

Akeredolu is survived by his wife, Betty, and four children.
