Ondo Voters Set to Elect New Governor

A total number of 1,757,205 registered Voters across the 18 local governments in Ondo State Southwest Nigeria today, the 16th November, 2024 goes to the polling booths to elect a new governor for another four years.

 

The off-cycle election had generated varied interests across party lines as incumbent governor,Lucky Aiyedatiwa among other fourteen contestants are vying for the exalted position while three candidates withdraw from the race.

 

The withdrawn parties and their candidates included: Accord Party, Dr.Ajibola Faleye,National Rescue Movement,Jenyo Ataunoko and the deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress,Olaide Ibrahim.

 

Giving assurances

The Ondo state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC),Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola while giving assurances that the election will be free, fair and credible, said 2,053,061 registered for Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) but 1,757,205 were collected by registered voters.

 

According to her, we have deployed 4,002 Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BIVAS) devices to 3,933 polling units with additional 812 units on standby in case of any technical hitches.

 

A major concern leading up to the event of today has been the issue of possible violence, but the heads of security agencies have allayed the fears, promising to be impartial but professional in their operations.

 

The voting masses are in high spirit to perform their civic responsibility.
