The traditional Ruler of Ife in south west Nigeria, Ooni of Ife, has urged the Governor of Kogi state, North central Nigeria to set a legacy for the youths to emulate in terms of good governance.
Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi was speaking at a symposium to mark Governor Yahya Bello’s 46th birthday on Friday, in Lokoja the state capital.
He said it was not enough to celebrate him as the youngest governor in the country, but charged him to set a standard for good governance for the youths in the country who saw him as a role model, and aspire to hold public offices to emulate.
“It is not just about being the youngest Governor, but setting a legacy which people can look back tomorrow and say you did this…” he said.
He said many youths looked up to him to set modern day standards in good governance that can be emulated in other states across the country.
In his remark, the Governor of Kogi state, Yahya Bello said his government was setting a standard of including youths and women in governance at every level.
He said “for us, we are not in office with the mindset of not vacating office to create room for the youths. It is about being in office and creating an enabling environment for others to take over when we leave.”
Other dignitaries present at the event praised the Governor for his effort in ensuring peace and security in the state, while urging him to do more to grow the state.
