OpenAI Board Rejects Elon Musk’s $97.4 Billion Acquisition Bid

OpenAI’s board of directors has unanimously rejected a $97.4 billion acquisition proposal from Elon Musk and his consortium.

In a statement released on Friday, OpenAI chairman Bret Taylor asserted, “OpenAI is not for sale, and the board has unanimously rejected Mr Musk’s latest attempt to disrupt his competition.”

Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, has raised concerns about the company’s transition to a for-profit model, arguing that it deviates from its original mission to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) for the benefit of humanity.

In response to the board’s decision, Musk’s lawyer, Marc Toberoff, claimed that OpenAI’s actions prioritise enriching certain board members over the organisation’s charitable objectives.

This development intensifies the ongoing dispute between Musk and OpenAI’s leadership regarding the company’s direction and governance.
