Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State in North Central Nigeria and former Governor, Gabriel Suswam have emerged candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the Benue North West and North East Senatorial Zones.
The candidates emerged after delegates from each of the seven Local Governments areas that make up the senatorial zones unanimously endorsed them.
Governor Ortom and Senator Suswam were sole contestants for the senatorial seats on the platform of PDP.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after he was declared winner by the returning officer for the election at Government House in Makurdi, the Governor thanked the people of the zone for always standing with him.
Ortom appreciated the stakeholders for giving him the opportunity to serve them in the Senate at the expiration of his tenure as governor.
“The Benue people, especially the people of Benue North-West, have demonstrated uncommon support to me. I have nothing to pay back than to remain their loyal servant, to give all to their service, ” Governor Ortom stated.
Service to the people
The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to sustain service to the people of the State, saying that the interest of the people will remain his priority.
He expressed delight for the successes recorded in the conduct of PDP primaries for both States and national assembly.
Governor Ortom attributed the successful conduct of the primaries to the series of meetings and consultations held by the party to ensure a hitch free exercise.
The primaries of the PDP are still ongoing in some parts of the state due to unresolved issues.
