As the 2026 ITTF Africa Cup commences, the President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ITTF Africa), Wahid Enitan Oshodi, has lauded the tournament in Libya as a milestone that transcends sports, serving as a powerful symbol of continental unity and diversity.

Oshodi, who is also Executive Vice President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), praised the Libyan government and people for their commitment to hosting one of the federation’s flagship tournaments.

“We are privileged to partner with the Libyan Table Tennis Federation (LTTF),” Oshodi said in his welcome message. “Their dedication to hosting this tournament reflects the diversity of our continent.”

“And their enthusiasm in sharing their culture with athletes, officials, and fans from across Africa makes this occasion truly special.”

Acknowledging Libya’s milestone of hosting its first continental table tennis tournament in the modern era, Oshodi added.

“This premier event, organised by ITTF Africa, not only showcases the finest players from across our continent but also strengthens the enduring legacy of excellence and unity in African table tennis,” he said.

“Events such as this celebrate both our diversity and our unity, defining what it means to be part of the table tennis family.”

Oshodi noted the significance of the tournament in a landmark year for the sport, coinciding with the ITTF’s Centenary Anniversary.

“As we look ahead to the centenary celebrations, culminating at the 2026 World Team Championships in London, this Africa Cup provides an invaluable opportunity,” the ITTF-Africa boss said.

“It allows our players and teams to sharpen their preparations, foster competitive excellence, and nurture the spirit of table tennis throughout the region.”
