Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen helped fire Napoli 12 points clear at the top of the Serie A table after a comfortable 2-0 victory against Salernitana, at the Stadio Arechi in Salerno, Italy.
The visitors featured Osimhen in attack with Eljif Elmas and Hirving Lozano supporting on the wings. For Salernitana, Krzysztof Piatek started up-front as the lone striker in a 4-5-1 formation.
In-form Napoli striker thought he had opened the scoring for his side in the 35th minute, but his effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR review. Then just before halftime, Napoli went ahead when captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s shot found the back of the net to make the scores 1-0.
The league leaders have been the team to beat in the Italian Serie A as they look to end its 33-year wait for the title in Italy.
Three minutes into the second half, Osimhen extended the lead for Napoli after he fired in a rebound from Ekmas’s shot off the bar.
The Super Eagles striker has now scored 13 goals so far in Serie A as he keeps up his goalscoring form.
The match finished 2-0 in favour of Napoli, who top the table with 50 pints from 19 games as they moved 12 points ahead of second-place AC Milan.
Milan could cut the gap to nine (9) points if they record a victory against Lazio on Tuesday.
For Salernitana, they are in 16th place on the Serie A table with 18 points from 19 games.
