The Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG) and other groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) are urging the party to present Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum as the party flag bearers for the presidential elections in 2023. The groups argue that these candidates are the most credible for the party’s strategic ambitions to continue ruling beyond 2023.

The Chairman of PCG, Dr Aliyu Rabiu Kurfi (Dan masanin kurfi), who led the group on a courtesy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum at the Government House in Maiduguri, thanked the governor for the warm reception saying, “the time has come to once again go into our stock to find vibrant individuals who will succeed politically. Succession is a very important business in any part of the world. Therefore, candidature shouldn’t be left in the hands of the voters alone; they should be guided accordingly with all other necessary ingredients of good governance.”

He further said, “your Excellency, we have taken stock of all other contenders for the 2023 Presidential Election, and we found you and His Excellency Professor Yemi Osinbajo fit to lead this country in the forthcoming elections in a joint ticket. We have heard of your qualitative leadership and that of Professor Osinbajo.”

Responding, Dr Zulum also thanked the group for visiting and expressed his delight at the kind gesture accorded him by the group saying, ” but I’m after the unity of our party rather than a personal interest.”

He said that he was solidly behind any initiative that will ensure unity among Nigerians, bring good governance and the progress of the APC. In his words, “We also have to concur with the party leadership. The party has its leaders, and we should all work together as one.”

He said he does not nurse inordinate ambitions, and that has been his character. For him, Nigeria should succeed, which is better than his personal ambitions.
