Governor Adeboyega Oyetola of Osun State has declared his interest to vie for a second term in office in the July 16 governorship poll.
Oyetola made his intention known when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Osun State Council of Obas’ meeting on Thursday, saying he plans to consolidate his administration’s good works and performance.
The governor expressed gratitude to the monarchs for their show of love and affection, which he said has been the driving force motivating him to put in his best to governance.
He appealed to them to continue to pray for the success of his government, noting that their continued prayers have been the secret behind his modest achievements so far.
“I decided to come and visit our fathers when it occurred to me that they will be holding their first meeting today. Also, I was highly impressed by the large presence of traditional rulers at the Inter-religious prayers session that we held two days ago. We had about 60 monarchs in attendance. It shows that you are with us, you o; your government and see this government as yours,” he said
Responding, the Chairman of the monarchs, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, applauded the governor’s achievements and reiterated the traditional rulers’ readiness to support the governor’s actualisation of his dreams.
Ogunwusi described the governor’s visit as first of its kind in the history of the State, saying the Oyetola’s high sense of modesty, prudence, probity and integrity necessitated their decision to give him all-round support continuously.
He lauded the achievements recorded by Oyetola’s Administration in the last three years. He urged him not to be distracted by those whose interest is to destabilise his government and cause division before the governorship election.
