The Gbenga Elegbeleye-led Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress Committee has officially declared the result of the election held on Saturday to choose new State Executives for the party in the state.

Declaring the result at the State Party Secretariat on Sunday, Elegbeleye said the committee adhered strictly to the guidelines stipulated by the party’s constitution in conducting the election.

The committee chairman, who attributed the success of the Congress to the cooperation of APC Party members in the state, commended the peaceful and rancour-free atmosphere in which the election was held.

He noted that with the Congress done and dusted, the Committee would revert to APC National Secretariat in Abuja to submit the result.

He thereafter read out a comprehensive list of those elected into various positions in the state and congratulated them on their victory.

Prince Gboyega Famodun, announced as State Chairman and Mr Alao Kamaru announced as Secretary, would jointly work with other elected executive members to pilot the affairs of the Party for the next four years.

Asked to comment on the parallel Congress held by a faction of the APC loyal to a former governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Congress Committee Chairman responded that he was not aware of any other Congress apart from the one he supervised.

“We came here to the party secretariat on Friday to address a stakeholders meeting, and we told them that the Congress would be held at the Osogbo City Stadium. We announced the venue of the congress. We were saddled by the party to conduct Congress for APC Osun State.

“If anybody goes to any shrine or any other place to do another thing, certainly that may probably be a funeral or marriage ceremony, but not a congress.

“The one we know we organized is APC Congress. So, we do not recognize and cannot assume that there was a congress anywhere else,” he said.

Earlier, the APC State Chairman-elect, Hon. Gboyega Famodun, lauded the Committee for being transparent, accountable and for ensuring that the entire process ended well.

Famodun who expressed gratitude to loyalists of the party for re-electing him promised not to let them down.

“I thank the Committee for a job well done and for giving us a wonderful executive through the Congress conducted. I want to assure you all on behalf of my team that we will put in our best.

“I commend the Press for doing us proud and for ensuring effective coverage.

“I commend those that contributed to the success of the Congress, particularly the Governor who has been so supportive. I extend tremendous appreciation to Chief Adebisi Akande who has been superintending the whole thing.

“I am happy, glad and overwhelmed for what we did yesterday. By the grace of God, we will not disappoint you all,” he added.
