Osun Governor Assures Of Speedy Upgrade Of Ilesha University

Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke says the newly upgraded University of Ilesha has come to stay and its takeoff is unstoppable.

The Governor disclosed this on Friday in Ilesha while on a working visit to the institution to assess existing facilities and chat with staff and students.

He said: “I am here to assess the actual state of the University of Ilesha and rub minds with our people on moving Ijeshaland forward.

My goal is to ensure that the University is properly establshed just as the PDP government did on the establishment of the Osun State University. The review committee on the subject has submitted its report and I am issuing a white paper”, he added.

Governor Adeleke noted that his visit would expedite action on the takeoff of the university as his government would soon release details of its plans for the nascent varsity.

Professor Taiwo Ashaolu, Chairman of the Review Committee, who spoke earlier, recommended affordable tuition and multiple sources of funding for the institution.

He advised that an institute be established to oversee the successful completion of the programmes of current students of the institution.

He said: “For the smooth running of the university, multiple sources of income is hereby recommended.

“An institute of education should be established under the faculty of education in the university to oversee the completion of the programme of the current students.

“Among other recommendations, all the existing staff, both academic and non-teaching staff of Osun State College of Education Ilesha are to be transited to the university.

“Recruitment process shall be by advertisement in national newspapers and other media.”

The Review Committee also recommended that the University should commence with a total of eight faculties and that the process of appointment should follow extant laws.

The pioneer faculties would include: Education and Vocational technology, Management Sciences, Social sciences, Science, Technology and Innovations, Humanities and Cultures, Agriculture and Agric Business as well as Basic Medical Sciences.
