The Osun State House of Assembly in Southwest Nigeria has tasked the contractor handling the Iwo-Osogbo road to deliver on time and according to specifications.
The charge was given during the on-the-spot assessment of the project to ascertain the level of work done.
The Assembly had summoned the contractor handling the project to express concern about the slow pace of the job.
Consequently, an ad-hoc committee was set up by the Assembly to oversee the project and ensure its timely completion.
The committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Akinyode Oyewusi led other committee members on the inspection tour of the work.
The team which also included engineers from the Ministry of Works as well as the contractor transversed the entire stretch of the road project.
Speaking after the inspection, “the Deputy Speaker said the task was to ensure that the Osun people whose taxes and levies were being used to execute the project get value for their money.”
Oyewusi said the exercise was not a witch-hunt but to ensure the project is done according to specifications and delivered on time for the benefit of the Osun people.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Mr Bashir Bello expressed appreciation on the oversight function by the State House of Assembly.
He added that it would improve the rapid development of all infrastructures across the State.
