The immediate past Nigerian Senate President, who is also a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki says Nigerians want passionate leaders that care more about the people.
Saraki sated this on Sunday while addressing newsmen shortly after the electoral umpire, INEC declared the PDP’s candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the keenly contested election.
While congratulating the party and Senator Adeleke, he described his party’s triumph at the just concluded election as a clear message that Nigerians are tired of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I want to thank Nigerians and I want to congratulate our new Governor-elect “ , he added.
According to him, “the message was clear, Nigerians have spoken, they’re tired of APC party, they’re tired of government that is not from them, they want passionate leaders ,leaders that care for the people”.
“This is a clear message here and that message is going to be heard across the entire country ,not only in South West, the country is going back to those better days, Nigerians want a better Nigeria, that is what they want and that is the message and we see the responsibility led by the presidential candidate to make this country better” says Saraki.
It would be recalled that Adeleke of the PDP, polled 403,371 votes to defeat his closest rival and the incumbent governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 375,027 votes.
Announcing the winner of the election, INEC’s Returning Officer of the Osun State governorship election, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, made the declaration at the INEC office in Osogbo, the state capital.
However, Senator Adeleke, a native of Ede town in Ede North local government area, won in 17 local governments while Oyetola, who hails from Iragbiji, a town in Boripe local government area, won in 13 local governments of the state.
