The Governor of Osun State in Southwest Nigeria, Ademola Adeleke has restated that education remains a top priority of his administration, supported by consistent investment to raise learning standards across schools.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bobagunwa Igbalaye, gave the assurance at the flag-off of the distribution of teaching and learning materials to primary and secondary schools in the state.
Items distributed include; instructional materials, exercise books, notebooks, chalks, markers, textbooks in core subjects, and more than 12,000 sets of furniture.
According to his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, the initiative has ended the practice of pupils carrying chairs from home.
Governor Adeleke noted that “between 2022 and 2024, his administration paid counterpart funds to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) dating back to 2019, constructed and refurbished over 400 classrooms in 139 schools, provided over 12,500 sets of furniture, and enhanced digital literacy with ICT materials, solar systems, and 1,000 tablets for attendance monitoring.

He further highlighted government support for school sports, agricultural training, and teacher welfare, including the implementation of the minimum wage and special interventions for children with disabilities.
The Governor said “the 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Action Plan, already underway, will deliver 333 new classrooms, boreholes, toilets, perimeter fencing, ICT facilities, monitoring vehicles, motorbikes, and additional furniture for schools across the state.”
He recalled that between 2022 and 2024, his administration paid counterpart funds to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) dating back to 2019, constructed and refurbished over 400 classrooms in 139 schools, supplied more than 12,500 sets of furniture, and improved digital literacy with ICT facilities, solar systems, and 1,000 tablets for attendance monitoring.
Governor Adeleke further highlighted support for school sports, agricultural training, teacher welfare, and special interventions for children with disabilities, including the implementation of the minimum wage.
He also announced that the Alternative School for Girls, Osogbo, and the UBEC Model Smart School, Osogbo, will commence academic session on 22nd September 2025, with plans to replicate the model across the state.
The Governor commended the Chairman of SUBEB, Mr. Fadipe Ibukun Isola, and his team for their commitment, while appreciating UBEC for its partnership with the state.
He reiterated his administration’s determination to secure the future of children in Osun through quality education, stressing that with citizens’ support, government will continue to build a system that works for every child.
