The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has pledged his administration’s commitment to quality education.
Governor Oyetola said no effort would be spared in providing functional education that would move the students to win academic milestones in life.
He made the pledge at the grand finale of the 3rd edition of the Osun State Independence Day Essay Competition in Osogbo, the state capital in Southwest Nigeria.
He said “through government intervention, students in public schools have flown the flag of his state higher by coming tops in national competitions, with some emerging best in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
“In 2020 alone, two Osun students, Christianah Akinlaja from Fakunle Unity School, Osogbo and Master Akinlade Abdulahi, a student of Osogbo Grammar School won national awards, including the National Essay Competition on Covid-19 and 1st Position in the National Examination of the 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award respectively.”
On the importance of the Essay competition, Governor Oyetola described it as “an opportunity for Osun students to express their opinions on the importance of the independence of our nation, sharpen their imaginative capabilities, build their communication skills, broaden their intellectual horizon, enhance their competitive abilities and prepare them for nation building as leaders of tomorrow”.
The Governor said the competition has prepared yet another crop of students that are capable of representing Osun State nationally, stressing they have the potential to win laurels at global competitions.
While congratulating the winners of this year’s competition for demonstrating zeal, diligence and commitment, Governor Oyetola thanked the teachers for their input which produced the quality of students that participated in the competition.
In the Secondary school category, Ajisebiyawo Olaoluwa from Osogbo Local Government came first with a cash prize of #250,000, a Laptop and a printer.
Master Oseni Gideon from Ayedadade Grammar School, Ikire came second with a cash prize of #100,000 and a Laptop,
While Afolabi Oyekanmi came third with #100,000 cash prize and a Laptop.
In the Higher Institution category, Master Babalola Segun from Ife North Local Government area of Osun State came first with #500,000, a laptop and printer.
Mr Aremu Bolarinwa from Iwo Local Government came Second with a cash prize of #300,000 and a Laptop.
Adeyemo Festus from Olaoluwa Local Government came third with a cash prize of #200,000 and a Laptop.
Governor Oyetola was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji.
