The Government of Osun State in Southwest Nigeria has organised a sensitisation workshop for sixty-nine Chairmen of Local Governments and Local Council Development Authorities (LCDAs) in the state.

At the workshop organised by the Osun Rural Access And Agricultural Marketing Project (O’RAAMP), Governor Adegboyega pledges support for the agency in achieving its critical role as an agent of rural development.

He explained that the workshop was designed to get accurate data on road inventory in the state.

The governor thus admonished the Council Chairmen to see their work as a call to service, even as he implored them to cooperate with the project handlers for the smooth delivery of projects.

The Project Coordinator, Osun RAAMP, Mr. Mumuni Raifu who acknowledged the government’s unflinching support for the projects, explained that the rural road agency has received much support from the government despite the paucity of funds.

The coordinator said the workshop “aimed at creating a collaborative effort in the assemblage of a cohesive and verifiable survey on road inventory in the state, irrespective of their categories”.

He stressed that the contribution and cooperation of the Local Government Chairmen will enhance the job.

Mr. Rafiu described the directors of works in the Local Government Areas as very key in the quest to fix and maintain all the roads in the hinterland, saying the directors of works are the custodians of all data concerning the roads.

He maintained that road inventory remains a comprehensive survey that could be used to study the profile of the roads, in any given area, stressing the importance of accurate features of roads as well as their conditions.

“The activity is important to the state because it would go a long way in harnessing further external funding for infrastructural development from donor partners. I hereby charge the Chairmen to support and cooperate with those that will be out for the exercise in their areas of jurisdiction”, he said.

Oyetola was represented at the workshop by the Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Affairs, Mr. Olusegun Olanibi.
