Oxford Global Health Society launches Climate Change Health Risks Conference

The Oxford Global Health Society has launched its Conference on Climate Change and Health System Resilience by bringing experts to tackle the critical intersection of climate change and global health.

The President, Oxford Global Health Society and DPhil Candidate in Primary Health Care, University of Oxford, Dr. Francis Ayomoh, emphasized the immediate and profound impacts of climate change, noting that it is already affecting the health of millions worldwide.

He pointed to rising temperatures, extreme weather events, shifting disease patterns, and food and water insecurity as key challenges exacerbating global health vulnerabilities.

“The Oxford Global Health Society, a collective of scholars, professionals, and students, is dedicated to advancing global health through education, research, and advocacy. The society’s mission is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation to address global health challenges and promote equity in healthcare access and outcomes worldwide”.

Dr. Ayomoh said the conference agenda features two significant panel discussions designed to explore these pressing issues in depth.

“The first panel, Climate Change and Emerging Health Threats: Preparing for the Unknown, will examine the direct health threats emerging from climate change and strategies for proactive preparedness, the second panel, “Policy and Governance for Climate Change: Reducing the Impact of Health Systems on the Environment,” will focus on policies and governance strategies to minimize the environmental impact of health systems and enhance their resilience”. He explained.

Dr. Ayomoh extended heartfelt thanks to the distinguished speakers, panelists, and participants, emphasizing the value of their contributions.

He expressed confidence that the collaborative efforts of the attendees would generate actionable insights and strategies to address these critical issues.
