The Oyo State House of Assembly is set to repeal the law establishing the First Technical University, Ibadan, to reflect the recent change in the name of the university by Governor Seyi Makinde to Abiola Ajimobi First Technical University, Ibadan.
The repeal was contained in a letter forwarded to the House by Governor Makinde and read at plenary by the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.
The letter reads: “This administration has observed the need to repeal the First Technical University, Ibadan, Oyo State Law, 2021 and enact a new law to reflect the university’s well-deserved renaming from First Technical University, Ibadan, to Abiola Ajimobi First Technical University, Ibadan.
“This is also to ensure its governance structures are in line with other state-owned institutions.”
The First Technical University, Ibadan, was established by the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2017.
Also during Tuesday’s plenary, Governor Makinde, in a letter to the lawmakers, read by the Speaker, sought confirmation of the appointment of Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu, as the President of the Customary Court of Appeal in the state.
The request became imperative following the recommendation of Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu to the National Judicial Council as President of the Court of Appeal by the Oyo State Judicial Service Commission.
“Consequent upon the request, the National Judicial Council has recommended Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu as the new President of the Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal,” the letter reads in part.
The position became vacant following the retirement of the former President of the Customary Court of Appeal in the state, Justice Moshood Akintunde Abass.
