The Oyo State Government has charged civil servants in the state’s workforce to put in their best for effective service delivery.

The Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Siju Lawal, gave the charge while declaring open a one-day sensitisation workshop on effective service delivery and attitudinal change for secretarial assistants, explaining that employees’ attitude and conducts at work were connected to organisational productivity and progress.

Lawal said: “It gladdens my heart to welcome you all to this workshop organised for you in order to key into the developmental agenda of the present administration and to further deepen your knowledge to be able to compete favourably with your counterparts in the Federation.”

“Employees’ attitude and conducts at work are concomitant to organisational productivity and progress. Secretaries are frontline managers. Therefore, their productivity can make or mar the productivity of their bosses,” the commissioner asserted.

He noted that the ministry decided to organise the workshop, having observed a series of unethical attitudes of some secretariat assistants, such as sheer negligence of duties nonchalant attitude to work, lobbying for preferential postings and poor quality service delivery, among others.

Lawal disclosed that the workshop would avail the secretariat assistants the opportunity to jointly diagnose the underlying factors behind the unethical conducts and proffer appropriate solutions accordingly, urging the participants to make the best use of the knowledge gained during the training programme.

He said: “I implore you all to make the best use of knowledge gained during the training programme so as to become agents of positive change. We should always strive to be the best in the course of discharging our duties to ensure that the catalytic movement of the present administration is sustained to ensure continuous and quality service delivery.”

The Commissioner revealed that the participants were expected to leave the sensitisation workshop with complete positive attitudinal change and ideal ethical values and practices that would enhance their productivity towards the upliftment of the state civil service and charged them to always strive to be the best in the course of discharging their duties.

The training, which was held at the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre, State Secretariat, Ibadan, the state capital, had fifty participants drawn from various state ministries and agencies.
