Oyo: Governor Makinde attributes improved security to inter-agency collaboration

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has attributed the improved security situation within and around the state to the cooperation and synergy between all security agencies operating in the state.

The Governor, who expressed optimism at greater improvement, promised that more strategies and additional apparatus would be deployed in the year 2022, saying the state hopes to launch an additional Mobile Police Squadron in the Oyo area of the state.

He made the disclosure, on Sunday, while speaking at the 2022 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration Church Service, held at The Cathedral of St Peter, Aremo in Ibadan, the state’s capital.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, the Governor also appealed to Nigerians, particularly the people of the state, to support and give special privileges to spouses and loved ones of heroes or members of the Armed Forces, who fought gallantly for the nation, noting that the state would continue to ensure that the welfare of the families of the fallen heroes are not neglected.

He said: “I will start with the families of the fallen heroes, the loss of their loved ones will not be in vain. So, as a nation and as a state, and I am sure even as the Armed Forces, they will continue to care for them to ensure that their welfare is guaranteed.”

Governor Makinde attributed the improvement that has taken place in the security of the state in the last one year to the fact that the security agencies now have a better working relationship, especially with the establishment of the Amotekun Corps, and the grace of God.

He stated: “We are expecting that the security will get better because more strategies and additional apparatus would be deployed in year 2022. For instance, the Mobile Squadron Unit will hopefully happen this year and we will also ensure that synergy and cooperation between the security agencies are improved upon in year 2022.”

In his sermon on the topic: “Showing Proof of Our Calling,“ the Provost of the Cathedral, Very Revd Wale Adebiyi, in reference to the book of Mathew 3: 13-17, said one of the challenges facing the nation across all sectors is that people don’t take their job, work or vocation as a calling.

Adebiyi said when people see what they do as a calling, showing faithfulness and commitment to it, God would prove Himself in their lives and the nation would move forward, noting that the secret of happiness is to serve God and serve humanity.

The cleric said: “We may be called to be anything in our various fields of endeavour all for the edification of the body of Christ. There is also the universal call, and as such we must not see our work as a mere vocation but a calling. The general calling to all of us is to be born again and they are to prove it with their ways of life. They must be genuine and true Christians.”

“If Christians in Nigeria can prove that they are Christians in their place of work and offices, the country would be better. Let us show that we are Christians and that we are for life, as it would reflect in our fruits. But the trouble is that many of us don’t understand what we were called for. He called us to serve people around us,” he asserted.

Adebiyi particularly acknowledged God for what he described as an improved security situation in the state and appreciated Governor Makinde and his team for the effort, urging them to sustain the tempo and even do more in the new year.

The service was attended by top government functionaries, service commanders and families of the fallen heroes among others.
