The Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bolstering the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in its mission to safeguard lives and property across the state.

Governor Makinde commended the NSCDC for establishing the Agro Rangers Squad, a specialised unit designed to protect farmers from attacks on their farmlands.

He noted that the initiative has significantly boosted farming activities and food security in Oyo State by providing farmers with much-needed protection against herders and other threats.

To further enhance the NSCDC’s operational efficiency, the governor pledged to provide the corps with additional operational vehicles. He emphasised that supporting security agencies remains a top priority for his administration as it continues to focus on the safety and well-being of residents.

The State Governor commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for providing virile leadership that has enhanced productivity and effective service delivery of the Corps.

While receiving the Commandant General at the State Government House in Ibadan, the governor remarked that the NSCDC is making waves and changing narratives in strengthening the nation’s security architecture because they are highly professional and disciplined.

He hinted that the operations of the NSCDC Agro Rangers Squad have positively impacted food security in the state as Agro Allied Investments are well protected and the squad has salvaged the state from farmers-herders clashes, malicious damage to farm crops, and attacks against each other.

Makinde added that the Agro Rangers Initiative is timely, apt, and problem-solving, as it has helped the farmers in the state to go about their farming without any fear or intimidation.

“I want to appreciate the efforts and activities of the Civil Defence Corps in the state, most especially the Agro Rangers’ Unit, that has continued to protect our farmers, thereby encouraging food security in the state,” he said.

In his response, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, thanked the governor for his untiring support to the Corps in Oyo State, adding that the Agro Rangers Squad is poised to provide their best security approach to ensure adequate protection of the farmers.

He explained that Agro Rangers is the sole specialised unit in the NSCDC with a clear mandate to protect farmers and other agricultural facilities across the country.

The CG assured the Governor that NSCDC will not relent in its efforts to make life difficult for the criminal elements in the state; hence, all hands would be on deck to forestall any act that would put the state in disarray.

“We are also committed to safeguarding all critical national assets and infrastructure in the state as well as protecting the people’s lives and property,” Audi added.
